Our attempt to make the popular “Sambhar”…a very famous vegetarian recipe from southern India…my one time favorite.
Ingredients[ to serve 4 ]
- Toor dal- 1/2 cup cooked
- Onion – 1 chopped
- Tomato – 1 chopped
- Salt – To taste
- Sambhar powder – 1tbsp.
- Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp .
- Tamarind paste-2 tbsp.
- Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Ginger paste – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
- Curry leaves-3-4
- Whole red Chilli –
Preparation Method
- Heat oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds,red chilli and curry leaves and fry for 1 minute.
- Add onion,tomato,ginger-garlic paste,and fry till the oil starts to separate
- Now add red chilli powder,sambhar powder,turmeric powder,tamarind and cook for 3-4 mins.
- Add cooked dal and simmer gently for 10 minutes.
- Serve hot with rice
